Theories In Basic Electronics Like Voltage Divider

The first thing that you should know when building circuits for electrical devices are the theories in basic electronics. Get to know the various components used in them and how to properly connect them to each other. And study how to make and read schematic diagrams that represents graphically the electrical circuit using images and symbols.

Doing so is essential when there is a particular device you want to make but is still confused with some parts of the process. This might be something a little advance such as voltage divider which produces an output that is a portion of its input. But learn or review first the theories in basic electronics to understand better the more advanced stuffs.

Begin with identifying the types of electricity such as AC or alternating current and DC or direct current. The direction which electrical signal flows on AC is constantly reversing or alternating with the reversal rate measured in Herts. Meanwhile the flow in DC is one direction to ground from power source and found commonly with batteries.

A circuit is closed when electric current is being allowed passage through a path to ground from power source which indicates a functioning device normally. While the open one has broken the path and prevents movement when a machine is turned off. This is done using a switch so you can alternate between them rather than removing its source.

Components create resistance when current pass through them from positive voltage to ground and if these two are directly connected, it would cause a short circuit. This direct connection will result in explosion, fire, breaking or overheating which must be avoided. A switch would not add resistance so simply putting one without other parts is not advisable still.

Wiring things together could be done with two ways that are called series as well as parallel and the former indicating that every component is wired after each one. While the latter would indicate that the parts were wired next to the other which makes electricity simultaneously pass them. Both ways can be used together when you build circuits.

Adding resistance into circuits is done with resistors and they reduce current flow and are also available in a variety of values measured with ohms. They have wattage ratings also and their value is indicated by colored bands around their body. You could learn reading these bands or look up for graphs that helps in calculating their values.

Components which stores electricity and discharges them when they drop are called capacitors and is measured with Farads commonly shown in units of nanofarad, picofarad and microfarad. The types of capacitors commonly used are electrolytic and ceramic disc. The latter being non polarized while the former is polarized requiring one leg to connect properly with either the ground or power.

Diodes are polarized components allowing current to pass through one direction and would cause a voltage drop. One of its side is called cathode which connects to power and the other is anode. These are just samples of the basic theories you must learn in making electrical devices.
